The Muggabears | Teenage Cop EP

I’m zero for three this week, I missed A Sunny Day In Glasgow on Sunday, Citizens Here and Abroad on Monday, and The Muggabears on Tuesday. Additionally, I was hoping to write this post two days ago and give a little shout out to the Earfarm/Beg Yr Pardon show but became entirely too busy, eventually missing the show altogether. Ugh. Anyway, happy belated birthday to Earfarm!

I’ve been meaning to check out The Muggabears for a little while now, their three-song EP, Teenage Cop, hasn’t strayed far from my ears since receiving it. I have just one issue with Teenage Cop - it’s too short! After listening to it a dozen of times, I’m left craving more of their “mathed-out” sound and end up listening to dissonant guitar riffers Polvo to calm my craving. The comparisons don’t end with Polvo, the Brooklyn trio takes detailed notes from the best of indie rock’s heyday including Pavement, Sonic Youth, and early Centro-Matic. The ‘bears love noise and they’re not afraid to show it.

It looks like I’ll have to get my hands on their 2004 debut full-length Kim Berlin to satisfy my tastes until I can catch their live show. Fortunately, I don’t have to wait long; the band is playing Friday, October 20th at Galapagos and again during CMJ on Tuesday, October 31st at Club Midway. Check out some tracks below.
