120 Days | NYC Dates + “Come Out (Come Down, Fade Out, Be Gone)”

UPDATE: All dates are cancelled until October/November because of problems with their visas.

120 Days are set to play three shows next week including Modular’s monthly party at Club Midway with Nghia’s faves Klaxons. A couple of us over here at CU have been pretty impressed with what we’ve heard from this Norweigan quartet and are pretty excited to check them out.

Under the moniker “The Beautiful People” the group released two EP’s on the small Oslo label Public Demand back in 2004. The second of these EP’s, an epyonymous five-track, generated a bit of a buzz for the band as did their set at Norway’s By:Larm Festival. A couple high-profile gigs at the Sonar Festival in Barcelona and the Reading and Leeds festivals in the U.K. landed the band on the U.S. label Vice Records. The band later changed their name to 120 Days and are said to be the first Norweigan band to sign directly to a U.S. label.

Clocking in at just under nine minutes, the track “Come Out (Come Down, Fade Out, Be Gone)” explores the terrain between electro and Krautrock. The first minute of the song builds with Kraftwerk’s chugging synths before exploding into an electro rock assault at the 1:11 mark and then drives forward in true “motorik” fashion (or “apache” if you’re Klaus Dinger) complemented by Ã…dne Meisfjord’s desperate vocals. The nine minutes flies by incredibly quickly.

120 Days plays Cake Shop on Monday 9/18, Club Midway on Tuesday 9/19 , and Mercury Lounge on Thursday 9/21 (The Big Sleep record release + Other Passengers). The cover for the Modular party is just $5 when you RSVP to Modular@Modularpeople.com (it’s also Klaxons U.S. debut).

120 Days self titled debut is due out in the U.S. via Vice Records on October 10th and will also be released on Smalltown Supersound (Jaga Jazzist) in Norway.

120 Days  ”Come Out (Come Down, Fade Out, Be Gone)” (highly recommended)
