The Silversun Pickups that I saw last night were loads better than the Silversun Pickups I saw five months ago at SXSW. Their sound has evolved vastly, while they have taken their live show to a whole new level. To put it briefly…they flat out fucking rocked. The quartet had Mercury Lounge bouncing for a good hour and a half as they plowed through most of their recorded material. Frontman Brian Aubert juggled vocal and guitar duties while working wah-wah pedal and stomp boxes. Nikki Monninger unassumingly fed the background with thick bass lines and harmonies, cracking a grin everytime the band really started to rock out. Some of the highlights of the set included: “Lazy Eye”, “Dream at Tempo 119″, “Kissing Families”, and “Little Lover’s So Polite”. More pictures after the jump.

one of the best shows i’ve seen at the merc in awhile.

agreed, what a great show. they played a massive set of 11 songs (and a few virgin live performances) and closed out with 3 crowd-requested encores.
aubert had great stage chemistry too, keeping the packed crowd entertained between songs (and when he missed a second verse intro, doh!) without acting like a dumbass or a cocky bitch.
hugely recommended. i bet these guys are really going to blow up.

Does anyone have a live recording of this SSPU show? If so, I’d love to trade:
